Melys - Second wind 13/6/25
Melys return with Second Wind, their first collection of new material in two decades. The Welsh indie favourites blend light and shade across tracks that explore difficult truths and uplifting moments with characteristic honesty and tunefulness. From the searing ‘Bruises’ and ‘Love Yourself’, which deal with domestic abuse and toxic relationships, to the sunny optimism of ‘Llawenydd (Joy)’ and road trip-inspired single ‘Santa Cruz’, the album spans a wide emotional range. ‘5 Star T*ts’, featuring guest guitar from Pendulum’s Peredur ap Gwynedd, tackles sexism in the music industry, recalling a demeaning review that reduced frontwoman Andrea’s worth to her appearance.Recorded between homes in Wales and Scotland, Second Wind was mixed by renowned producer Gorwel Owen (Super Furry Animals, Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci, Datblygu, Gwenno) and sees the band reconnecting with trusted collaborators.Originally from Betws-y-Coed in Eryri, Melys are well-loved for their bilingual songwriting and long-standing relationship with the late John Peel, for whom they recorded 11 sessions. Their recent BBC sessions compilation reignited interest, and with a UK tour and European festival appearances lined up, the band are firmly back in motion.
