A complete edition of the 1977 Sonic Assassins concert, recorded at Queens Hall, Barnstaple and mixed from the original master tapes. Billed as Dave Brock’s Sonic Assassins, the group brought together Hawkwind members Dave Brock and Robert Calvert with future recruits Harvey Bainbridge, Martin Griffin and Paul Hayles. Originally conceived as a Brock and Calvert side project, the set captures early versions of ‘Freefall’ and ‘Death Trap’, alongside the improvised ‘Over The Top’, showcasing Calvert’s distinctive lyrical style. The performance would go on to inform the direction of Hawklords and later iterations of Hawkwind. This edition gathers all surviving recordings from the night, expanding on the material first issued as the ‘Sonic Assassins’ EP.
